Playtesting & QA

6 free playtesting and QA tools, sorted by how friendly they are for beginners.

Playtesting means watching other people play your game so you can find what is confusing, too hard or broken. QA (quality assurance) is the work of finding and fixing bugs before players hit them. Both matter more than any single feature.

For a first game, start simple: share a private build with friends on itch.io and watch them play without helping. As your game grows, add crash reporting and basic analytics so you can see where testers quit, and try a Steam Playtest once your game has a Steam page.

If you code in Godot or Unity, free test frameworks let you write automated tests that catch bugs when you change things. Every tool here is free or has a free plan, checked on the official site on October 23, 2026.
